Just Let It In

November 13, 2011

Telling the truth is powerful beyond measure.

Acknowledging what’s so, frees us from the endless tyranny of defense.

The unsolvable, irresolvable dilemma of right and wrong. Good and bad.

Acknowledging what IS has the power to calm the mind and still the heart.

It can free us to choose.

It opens the horizon of our vision.

Acknowledging what IS, stops the battle…inside.

This brings peace. Rest. Choice.

True choice, free of entanglements. When we put the burden of hiding from ourselves down, the knots holding things in place can begin to loosen.

Do not mistake me. It’s not about wrapping oneself in a story of woe and misery like a shroud.

I am speaking of simple truth. The unwrapped, no spin, plain vanilla, simple, unvarnished truth. What’s actually so. Simply and finally, what IS. The truth we spend enormous amounts of energy running and hiding from.

Sometimes we don’t like the truth about ourselves. We feel envious, small, hateful in some way. We make it mean something. We make it bad. We make it wrong. We lock it away. It eats at us. Undermining the foundation of all that we cherish and hold most valuable. It sits just on the edge of our periphery.

We turn away and blind ourselves to it. We turn it, and ourselves into monsters. We feel more alone, more afraid, simply by hiding from what IS. We make it all personal. Instead of simply this: the human condition. Something that each and every single one of us shares.

The flip side is this. There is unacknowledged beauty within us. There is power. Love. Kindness. Intrinsic goodness. And sheer magnificence.

We put on a mask, even when we are with ourselves. A mask that shows something different than what’s honestly so.

What if you simply tell the truth? What if you take off the mask? At least to the most important person in your life? Yourself.

In this moment, turn and face one of the things you’ve been unwilling to allow in. Welcome whatever’s been tapping on the glass just outside your full awareness. Right now. Just let it in. Sit with it. Imagine a sweet sleeping toddler cuddled in your own precious lap.

Until we stop.

Until we know what’s so.

Until we are willing to fully let it in.

To sit with it.

Until we take that deep inhale and say, “Ok”, let it settle into our awareness, front and center.

Until we simply see and acknowledge.

Until we can admit that something indeed is there.

The storm brewing.

The small bitterness.

Fear.

Anger.

Delight.

Nothing. Not one thing can change. Not. One.

Acknowledgement is the first step.

We need to know where we truly are.

When we do, our entire being begins to relax. The resistance holding things in place dissolves. The energy binding us to the past, limiting our forward movement starts to unwind. We come fully into the present. Solutions and possibilites rush in.

We know this. We just forget. So, give yourself this moment to breathe. Get present.  And welcome something you’ve been pushing away. Allow it into your awareness and acknowledge its presence. Welcome it with love, compassion, gentleness, and kindness. Give it space. Simply be with it. Whatever it IS.

Acknowledgement is power.

What are you willing to acknowledge? Today?

I’d love to know.

I am a creative old gal with a sense of humor. I like being old. And that’s not a joke! Relaxing into aging everything included.

Thanks, Gaea!
That is certainly, unwrapped and no spin! You my dear are certainly not plain vanilla tho!

I think Plain Vanilla is the most luscious of flavors.

I have to agree, Deb. It’s simplicity is pretty alluring!
